What we love: The Mom Walk Challenge

When Rylie was first born I immediately dropped a lot of weight and was feeling pretty awesome about myself, but it didn’t take long to pack those pounds back on. I was starting to feel really down on myself, in fact I still am. But fortunately I have my super fit friend Sherri to kick my booty back into shape.

About a week or 2 ago we started to get back into our routine of doing 4 mile walks in one hour on our lunch break. Our goal; Get to the tea! You see the Quik Trip that is exactly 2 miles from our office just started offering a few unsweetened flavored teas that are to die for! So we are the mice running to the cheese. 2 miles there, 2 miles back.

I’m desperately trying to quit drinking diet coke. I’m a serious addict. So I’ve been trying to drink 2 liters of water a day and then rewarding myself with tea. It’s been working pretty well so far.

Then last week I came across The Mom Walk Challenge. Even more encouragement. I’ll take all I can get.

So each Monday I will be here, logging my miles from the previous week and sharing my progress on the Mom Walk Challenge.

Last week I walked 8 miles. I could do better. Goal for this week, let’s try for 12. Wish me Luck!

P.S. Does my 12 hour day on my feet with heavy camera count as exercise? I was really sore after all that work.

What we love (or don’t): Amber Teething Necklace

Amber Teething Necklace

I wouldn’t say we LOVE the Amber Teething Necklace.

So, why did we buy it? Well duh! All the cool kids are wearing them.

OK, in all seriousness, I had been reading a little bit about the necklace and was very skeptical. Supposedly the amber beads release oils into the skin that act as a natural analgesic. I’m not much into natural healing but I thought I’d give it a shot. I had a crabby baby on hand and needed to try something. All the teething rings and orajel just weren’t working for us.

I had many concerns, specifically regarding choking. So I’ve been very cautious with the necklace. I won’t allow Rylie to wear it to school or to bed which only allows for weekend days to try it out.

There was definitely a noticeable difference in Rylie’s personality the first weekend, but I really don’t know if it was because of the necklace or because her first tooth finally broke through. Once the weekend was over and she went back to school she remained cheerful, even without the necklace.

I’ve asked other moms what they thought of the necklace and typically get the same answer. “I’m not sure if it works, but it looks cute.”

So was it worth the $20 I spent on it? Definitely not.

And moms, if you do decide to try one of these, please remember, safety first. I may be overly concerned but I’d rather listen to my babies cries than never hear her cry again.

Oh yeah, and Rylie just cut her second tooth! Moving right along…

What we love: the little things

“slow it down. make it stop. or else my heart is going to pop!”

Tomorrow my little girl will be 7 months. That’s more than a half a year that she has been in my life. I often feel like I’m not paying enough attention to all the little things. Time goes by so fast. I take too much for granted. A few of my favorite mommy bloggers have reminded me of this today.

I was really touched by a video I came across on boho baby bump this morning. The video was intended to make a big announcement at the end, but it was all the things leading up to the announcement that really got to me. It creatively captured a day in the life of this little family, pointing out things that on most days you would never pay attention to.

Another blogger I follow regularly is ohdeardrea. I love the way she really let’s you in to her life through her photography. She posts about the pretty things in life, and even the messy things. The best part of her photography is that it really brings out her little girls personality. I’ve never met little Marlowe or ever spoken to her mom, but I feel like I know her. And as this little girl grows up, and her personality and habits change, her mama will always have these amazing photos to look back on and remember the little things, like the spaghetti on her baby girls lap as she eats her lunch.

Today, @ProjectBabyBlog tweeted

“There is nothing better than open-mouth baby kisses. Nothing. #motherhood”

To some that may sound gross or like no big deal. To a mommy it’s what we look forward to every day.

So take time in your day to notice and be grateful for the little things. Don’t photograph the obvious, capture the little things that you will want to remember someday. Sit back, enjoy the show.

I hope you enjoy these bloggers as much as I do
