The Day I Met You

Then and now

Dear Rylie,

On this day last year my head was in a bit of a fog, but I know for sure it was the best day of my life. It was the day I met you. You arrived at 10 a.m. after 24 long hours of labor. My first memory of you was tucked away in your daddy’s shirt after I woke up from my surgery. I remember laying in my bed watching you sleep by the window in your bassinet and thinking “I have no idea what I’m doing.” But I think I’ve got it figured out. We are learning and growing together and I’m loving every day of our life together.

I am so proud of the little girl you’ve become and I can’t wait for what the future holds for us.

Happy Birthday to my little princess. I look forward to many more wonderful years.

Here are some pictures from your first birthday party. While I know you will never remember it, I will always remind you of what a great day it was surrounded by wonderful people who really care for you.

I love you always Rylie.

She said “Mama”

For the first time this morning Rylie said MAMA. It was such a sweet sound. One that I’ve been waiting a long time to hear. I love her.

My baby has grown so big since I last posted. I can’t believe she will be ONE next week. She doesn’t seem like a baby any more, she’s my little girl. The sweetest little girl with the silliest little laugh and such a big heart. Here are just a few things she’s been up to…

Eating real people food – everything from french toast to pizza and pasta, her favorites are refried beans and spanish rice. Give that girl a bean burrito and she goes to town!

Who’sat – Rylie loves to point at people and things and say Who’sat.

I’m still standing – Just last week she learned to stand on her own. It was so funny, she would get so excited, start clapping and laughing hysterically and then fall on her booty. Push herself back up again and do it all over. Now she can stand for nearly 2 minutes without holding on to anything.

Almost walking – Yesterday while helping mama with the laundry, Rylie stood up and pushed the laundry basket all over the room as she removed articles of clothes from it for mommy to put away. Already a little helper.

Signing – We’re still working on our sign language but we definitely have “all done” down pat. Not only does she sign it but says ah-dah while waving her arms. We are still working on the sign for more.

Kisses – This kiddo can’t get enough kisses. In fact she’s getting herself in trouble for open mouth kissing her class mates. She’s learning to better pucker up and loves to kiss everyone! Rylie’s teachers often speak to her in spanish so she has also learned to blow besos (kisses). She covers her mouth with her hand and then dramatically pulls it away. She’s already an actress!

Peek a boo – nuff said

Most importantly – Rylie has now been sleeping through the night for a week straight. All that standing up/falling down must be wearing her out. Granted it’s a bit of a chore to get her to go to sleep, but currently the trick is to bring her for a walk around the block.

The list goes on. This girl is growing up so fast and my love for her grows and grows everyday.

Stay tuned for updates from this weekends birthday bash. And if you don’t see it on my blog you can always check out my TLC special about mom’s that throw extravagant birthday parties that their one year olds will never remember. OK, well not that extreme but it’s gonna be great!

What we love: the little things

“slow it down. make it stop. or else my heart is going to pop!”

Tomorrow my little girl will be 7 months. That’s more than a half a year that she has been in my life. I often feel like I’m not paying enough attention to all the little things. Time goes by so fast. I take too much for granted. A few of my favorite mommy bloggers have reminded me of this today.

I was really touched by a video I came across on boho baby bump this morning. The video was intended to make a big announcement at the end, but it was all the things leading up to the announcement that really got to me. It creatively captured a day in the life of this little family, pointing out things that on most days you would never pay attention to.

Another blogger I follow regularly is ohdeardrea. I love the way she really let’s you in to her life through her photography. She posts about the pretty things in life, and even the messy things. The best part of her photography is that it really brings out her little girls personality. I’ve never met little Marlowe or ever spoken to her mom, but I feel like I know her. And as this little girl grows up, and her personality and habits change, her mama will always have these amazing photos to look back on and remember the little things, like the spaghetti on her baby girls lap as she eats her lunch.

Today, @ProjectBabyBlog tweeted

“There is nothing better than open-mouth baby kisses. Nothing. #motherhood”

To some that may sound gross or like no big deal. To a mommy it’s what we look forward to every day.

So take time in your day to notice and be grateful for the little things. Don’t photograph the obvious, capture the little things that you will want to remember someday. Sit back, enjoy the show.

I hope you enjoy these bloggers as much as I do
