The Day I Met You

Then and now

Dear Rylie,

On this day last year my head was in a bit of a fog, but I know for sure it was the best day of my life. It was the day I met you. You arrived at 10 a.m. after 24 long hours of labor. My first memory of you was tucked away in your daddy’s shirt after I woke up from my surgery. I remember laying in my bed watching you sleep by the window in your bassinet and thinking “I have no idea what I’m doing.” But I think I’ve got it figured out. We are learning and growing together and I’m loving every day of our life together.

I am so proud of the little girl you’ve become and I can’t wait for what the future holds for us.

Happy Birthday to my little princess. I look forward to many more wonderful years.

Here are some pictures from your first birthday party. While I know you will never remember it, I will always remind you of what a great day it was surrounded by wonderful people who really care for you.

I love you always Rylie.

7 Month Update

Baby Girl,

Thursday was your 7 month birthday and YAY! You popped a tooth for us! You are growing so quickly before our eyes. This weekend we had to do some mommy/daughter shopping to restock your clothes. Your legs are so long all of your 3-6 month pants go up to your knees. I’m not quite sure where you get your long legs from, it certainly isn’t mommy.

So what else have you been up to? Well, this week we started giving you baby cookies and graham crackers to snack on. It’s quite messy but you seem to enjoy slobbering all over them until they melt in your mouth. We tried to make you a cheerio necklace like they did at school but they don’t seem to go down so easily yet.

Only a few weeks ago you started sitting on your own. You are getting to be very good at it but occasionally fall down. Yesterday while video chatting with Grandma you fell on your face, but you recovered nicely. You’ve also been a lot better at tummy time recently and you finally figured out how to roll from your belly to your back.

You’ve been drinking larger bottles and eating a lot of sweet potatoes, squash, and prunes. Mommy tries to make you home made food when she can but it’s hard to find the time. During the day I let you feed yourself but at night I still like mommy cuddle time before bed. While I’m feeding you, you like to grab my cheeks and also like to pull on my bottom lip. We’ve been able to get you to sleep longer stretches at night and a lot of the time you only wake up once which is really nice. Mommy and daddy have been sharing the duties of getting up with you now (mommy was a little worn out).

You are such a happy baby. You laugh hysterically and have become best buds with kitty. I’m trying to teach you gentle when you pet her on the head. Cooper is still afraid of you but I’m sure he’ll come around one day.

I love your little belly laugh and you also have an evil laugh that you like to do when I change your diaper. I’ll have to get that on video some time.

We read a lot of Dr. Seuss books together and you are still watching too much TV. You seem to really enjoy cartoons that have real humans in them. Blues Clues and Yo Gabba Gabba are your favorites. You start cracking up every time you see DJ Lance on the TV. Daddy does a really good Blues Clues impression.

Your favorite friends at school right now are Keeley and Aiden (sp?)

We’ve got a really exciting month ahead of us. We’ll be traveling to NJ to meet your east coast family for the very first time. I’m really nervous to travel with you but very excited also. It will be a bonding experience for sure. Just wish Daddy could join us.

So there you have it. We made it a half a year and you are still in one piece. Looking forward to another fun month of learning and growing with you little girl.

Love you,
Mama

If only we could stop the drool from flowing for just 1 photo!
