Darkness and Light

I am excited to announce that today I started a new chapter in my life. After 6 years with my previous employer I accepted a position as a Marketing Manager at a company called Origami Owl. I can’t tell you how perfect the timing was for this.

My last day of work at my previous company was Friday. Yesterday (Monday) they laid off half the company. I surely would have been on the list. I feel a lot of sadness and anger about this situation. I will keep it to myself aside from saying that this could have been prevented. The one thing I loved about that job was the people I worked with. My heart hurts for them.

But for myself, I am happy to have started this new adventure. I have a pink office. PINK! I see smiling faces everywhere and have received more hugs in one day than I have my entire adult life! OK, not that many, but A LOT.

Origami Owl is a custom jewelry company that was founded by a 14 year old who had a dream of buying her own car. FOURTEEN! Can you believe it? Since 2010 the company has catapulted and it’s jewelry is now available online or through Independent Designers.

“If you can dream it, you can do it” – This is the core belief at Origami Own, and a belief I will now hold close to me. I am beyond thankful for this opportunity.

What we love: the little things

“slow it down. make it stop. or else my heart is going to pop!”

Tomorrow my little girl will be 7 months. That’s more than a half a year that she has been in my life. I often feel like I’m not paying enough attention to all the little things. Time goes by so fast. I take too much for granted. A few of my favorite mommy bloggers have reminded me of this today.

I was really touched by a video I came across on boho baby bump this morning. The video was intended to make a big announcement at the end, but it was all the things leading up to the announcement that really got to me. It creatively captured a day in the life of this little family, pointing out things that on most days you would never pay attention to.

Another blogger I follow regularly is ohdeardrea. I love the way she really let’s you in to her life through her photography. She posts about the pretty things in life, and even the messy things. The best part of her photography is that it really brings out her little girls personality. I’ve never met little Marlowe or ever spoken to her mom, but I feel like I know her. And as this little girl grows up, and her personality and habits change, her mama will always have these amazing photos to look back on and remember the little things, like the spaghetti on her baby girls lap as she eats her lunch.

Today, @ProjectBabyBlog tweeted

“There is nothing better than open-mouth baby kisses. Nothing. #motherhood”

To some that may sound gross or like no big deal. To a mommy it’s what we look forward to every day.

So take time in your day to notice and be grateful for the little things. Don’t photograph the obvious, capture the little things that you will want to remember someday. Sit back, enjoy the show.

I hope you enjoy these bloggers as much as I do
